5/8/2003 - The Planet Selects MPC Computers for Servers and Storage
NAMPA, Idaho, -- The Planet Internet Services, Inc., a Dallas-based global provider of managed hosting and value-added data center services, has selected MPC servers and storage products as the corporate standard for its business.
The Planet recently purchased 30 NetFRAME 2610 and 15 NetFRAME 1610 servers for its Dallas data center. These servers deliver high performance at a low cost, with up to two Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processors, a 533MHz front side bus and up to 12GB of DDR memory. The Planet also installed 79 additional servers at the end of July. The purchase of MPC servers reinforces The Planet's choice of Intel as its preferred server platform.
The Planet will also be building Microsoft clustered solutions utilizing MPC's DataFRAME 310s storage product. The 310s comes equipped with 14 one-inch SCSI hotswap disk drive slots, up to 2TB maximum storage capacity and expansion for PCI and software RAID.
"We were looking for a hardware vendor that not only supported the Intel platform, but also one that could respond to The Planet's rapid growth," said Lance Crosby, The Planet's chief operating officer. "These products will be providing the lifeline for our business. MPC has demonstrated its willingness to work with us as a true partner for the long term. From the outset, the company has been flexible and responsive to our needs."
"MPC's relationship with The Planet is a strategic opportunity for both companies," said Adam Lerner, executive vice president for MPC. "The Planet is one of a handful of profitable companies in the web hosting industry, and it mirrors our commitment to bringing value to its customers."
